Huge increase on negative-cache entries

Reported by: anon Owned by: ahu
Priority: normal Milestone:
Component: recursor Version: 3.3
Severity: normal Keywords: negcache-entries
Cc:

Description

After upgrading the recursor from 3.2 to 3.3, the negative-cache entries are a factor N:

  • 137k average in 3.2

versus

  • 400k within 40 minutes of operating on 3.3

I don't know if it is a bug, but Bert asked to make a ticket.

Might be related to this entry in the Changelog:

Cache cleaning code was cleaned up, unified and expanded to cover the 'negative cache', which used to be cleaned rather bluntly. Code in Tickets: #1702, further tweaks in Tickets: #1712, spotted by Darren Gamble, Imre Gergely and Christian Kovacic.

I have added a revised picture; the new negative cache entries hit a cap at 800k records.

  • owner changed from somebody to ahu
  • version set to 3.3
  • component changed from component1 to recursor

  • status changed from new to closed
  • resolution set to invalid

because we've had no other reports of issues with negative caching or the size of the negative cache, I'm going to assume that the 3.3 changelog entry explains this.
